A proud tradition of our club is to see that the Nativity Scene is displayed in the main street of Eaglehawk to ensure its history, from its origins from the Borough of Eaglehawk are retained, remembered and explained to those who have not had the benefit of having seen this in the past.  The editorial included with the scene explains its origins, but for those who may not get to see it in the window of 'Vinnies' at 23 High Street, Eaglehawk, it's reproduced here for your benefit.  Also included is a great image of the scene taken just a couple of days ago, always a challenge to get a good shot at night but this one seems to do it justice.

This week's sales have been a great success, moving us ahead of last year's sales!  Well done to all ticket sellers.  Alex and Trevor, volunteers from the City of Bendigo Brass Band, can be seen here setting up for the day's sales last Saturday at the Bendigo Market Place.

A reminder to our club members, the raffle books that have been distributed to you for sale also play an important role in the overall success of this raffle each year.  Remember, you are not expected to buy them, but any tickets that you can sell to family and friends is greatly appreciated.  Let's see if we can go one better than last year - GP we are looking at you - how many books did you sell last year........?  Was it 10?  Members are asked to return your books (preferably with at least some tickets sold) to Alison this Wednesday 10th December.

Our meeting held at the book shop was an opportunity for members to see and hear about the history of the O'Brien Pharmacy and its evolution into the Eaglehawk Rotary Bookshop.  It's an amazing resource for the community; the variety and quality of the books is really something that has to be seen to be believed.  Many thanks to Lynne for the photography on the night - made the bulletin editors job a lot easier.

The club, via our Foundation Director, were recently advised of this great achievement, yet again a feather in Rotary's cap!

The Planning for our Club's Annual Australia Day Breakfast is well underway and while we work in the background to finalise planning for the event we are hoping everyone would also be considering possible nominations for the Citizen, and Young Citizen, of the Year Awards.

These awards form an important part of the Australia Day Breakfast held in Canterbury Park Gardens each year as the event is the ideal opportunity for our local Community to recognise and honour that person in our community who has contributed and helped to make our 'Borough' the wonderful place that it is.

Nomination forms are available to download from this website - see menu options above.  Who will you nominate ..........?

At our recent meeting our guest speaker, Harriet Caldwell, shared her remarkable story about how at the age of 13 as an active sports enthusiast she suffered a spinal cord stroke.  This initially came with the devastating news that Harriett would never walk again.  Now, two and a half years later Harriet has made astonishing progress and is passionately pursuing a career in wheelchair basketball.

Recently moved into Central Victoria, Ben has spent a considerable amount of time auditioning the local clubs to see where he would continue his rotary membership.  Our club were delighted with his final decision.  At our recent meeting Ben gave us an insight into his journey within Rotary and his passion and commitment to community volunteerism is evident.  It is an absolute pleasure to have him working within Rotary Eaglehawk and we look forward to exciting times ahead.  Welcome to the team Ben.

District Governor Peter 'This is awesome', as he strolled through the book shop and marvelled at the displays.  Not only the books that we had on offer but the volunteers under the guidance and leadership of Rita.  Paul O'Brien joined in the fun and took Peter for a tour of inspection of the historical aspect of the shop - quite outstanding!  A huge thank you to all who joined Rita at the bookshop and shared the fun visit with Peter.  Major thank you for the morning tea spread - has anyone ever seen scones that large before?
