April 2nd 2025

With several members away, this week's meeting was a rather quiet night - so with a quick dinner and only a few announcements it was an opportunity for those present to get the packing of the prep packs underway.  A great team effort saw the packs all finalised and boxed up ready for us to start the delivery to the schools early next term.

Included below is a short report on the Great Aussie Camping Swap meet and some of the photos taken on the day, we will be keen for Mick to return next week to give a full report on the event and to share some of the stories from the day.

The D9800 President Elects Training and Development will be taking place this weekend here in Bendigo.  A bonus for all of our local clubs to have less travel this year and we look forward to hearing all about the plans that our co-president elects will have in store for us upon the completion of their training and development.

A special mention to those of our members who answered the call that came through early on Sunday morning.  The CFA attending an incident in the Maiden Gully area were in need of being fed before they headed home - our club members jumped at the chance to again support in this area.

The Rotary Club of Castlemaine have now confirmed that they will be visiting our club on our Service Above Self night on Wednesday 7th May.  This will be a night where our club will present (in much the same format as used in Castlemaine) on our projects and programs.  So, if you want to present, please let me know.  If you have headed up a project/program recently you may just get a tap on the shoulder for your participation.  This is a great opportunity for us to consolidate our clubs connection with Castlemaine, so let's impress!

President Alison

BBQ Trailer Update
Our members are aware that we have embarked upon a 'fact finding' mission to see what options we have for our club's BBQ Trailer.  As resolved by the Board we have contacted all clubs in D9800 to see if we could tap into the knowledge of those who have recently upgraded and replaced their BBQ trailer.  Enquiries have also been made with regard to the options of potential costs of a new commercially purchased trailer.

The response has been amazing from the clubs and even clubs that are from further afield have contacted us with information.  Some clubs have sent photos, detailing their trailers good points and as we suggested, we've also received some advise on what may not be needed.  A couple of the local clubs have offered for us to inspect their trailers, so this will be the next step.  As soon as the info is collated we will have a much broader idea of the best course of action.

Great Aussie Camping Swap Meet
The return of the Great Aussie Camping Swap Meet event in 2025 saw a change in venue and a change in the weather!  The rain held off and there was little to no wind so the conditions were perfect for the stall holders and for the many members of the public that we had through the gates.  Held within the Truscott Reserve in California Gully there was plenty of space to spread out, ideal for the site holders to display their wares and for our visiting coffee van and club BBQ to make sure we had plenty for everyone.
