19th August, 2026

President Lindsay Walkington

Our speaker this week was Dr Brad Hodge, who delivered a thought-provoking and interactive session on human behaviour, with a particular focus on our own. Thanks, Brad.

Reminders and Updates

  • HIGH PRIORITY: At our next meeting on Wednesday 26 August, the club must vote on the proposed merger of District 9800 with Districts 9780 and 9790.

To help you decide, I will email each member the information provided to the club, including the proposed new boundary map and questions and answers about the proposal. The club must respond YES or NO by 31 August.

  • The Discussion Paper and Survey results are now complete, and I will send a copy to all members. Thank you for your participation. We plan to discuss the results at our upcoming board meeting.

  •

  • Andrea Metcalf will be this week’s guest speaker, and I understand she will talk about her life after serving as Mayor of the City of Greater Bendigo.

  •

  • EFNC gate duty: Our final gate duty for the year is on Saturday 22 August. Thanks to Geoff Gallagher, Jennifer Sanderson and Marg Walkington for staffing the gate.

  •

  • Thanks to Gary Frank for looking after the bookshop this Saturday and to Carmel Fitzpatrick for looking after it on Wednesday. Thanks also to our other volunteers who are assisting at the Rotary Book Shop.

  •

  • UPDATE: Carmel needs one person to help on Wednesday 2 September and two volunteers to help on Wednesday 16 September. Please call Carmel if you can help.

  •

  • A big shout-out to Ron Payne for volunteering to speak on ABC radio at 7 am on Wednesday 26 August about volunteering.  Be sure to tune in to hear Ron’s interview.

  •

Hope to see you all at our next club meeting on Wednesday, 26 August.

The Science Experience

John and Lynne spoke to the Year 10 cohort at Eaglehawk Secondary College recently about the opportunities to attend The Science Experience.

Thanks to Claire for arranging a very informative session, and we look forward to some of the STEM students applying to go later in the year or early in 2027.

Guests will also enjoy live Timorese music, displays celebrating twenty years of BMFC's work, and the opportunity to reconnect with friends and supporters who have been part of the journey.
