President - Lindsay Walkington

President's Quick Update

On Tuesday 13 October, current and past members of the Rotary Club of Eaglehawk attended the funeral of charter member Roy Parker to pay their respects. It was a fitting tribute to his life and service.

On a brighter note, our Wednesday night meeting turned out to be a great night. Following dinner, members got stuck into packing Prep Packs for Kids and the Mum & Bubs bags.

Everything was completed and is ready to go. Thanks to everyone for their efforts and to those who set everything up for packing. Great work, Alison.

The Bunnings barbecue on Sunday, 11 October was a great success, with sausages flying off the grill. Great effort, everyone.

Reminders and Updates

  • Know someone who would be a good candidate for Eaglehawk's 2027 Citizen of the Year or Young Citizen of the Year? Let a Board member know, and we can provide a nomination form.

  •

  • Please keep an eye out for emails from John Jones for rosters and keep him up to date.

  •

  • Christmas raffle duties have been a bit hectic this week. Thanks to the members who answered the call.

  •

  • Next week, our guest speaker will be Mark Waglan, a Salvation Army chaplain. His story should be very interesting.

  •

  • Remember that the meeting scheduled for Wednesday 28 October has been moved to Tuesday 27 October to support the Foundation Dinner. If you intend to attend, please transfer your payment to the club administration account by 20 October. Refer to the email sent to each member for details.

  •

  • There will be a barbecue for the Energy Breakthrough on Friday 23 October. Keep an eye out for details.

  •

  • Remember to check the roster for the bookshop. If you can't do your turn, please arrange a swap with another member before the day.

  •

  • Note: There will be a board meeting following the club meeting this coming Wednesday.

  •

I look forward to seeing you all next week.

Lindsay

Youth News

NYSF meeting with parents and students is being held next Wednesday at Discovery Centre for the 16 local students who have been accepted. Members are welcome to come along if they wish - starts at 5.

RYLA camp for 18-28 year olds in the first week of December. Let me know if you have a young person to attend this fantastic opportunity. Several Rotarians from other clubs and myself are speaking to students at TAFE next Wednesday.

Courtney Campbell recently told me she is settling in well to ANU in Canberra and has become a Student Leader for ANU Wonder ( Student Equity), which requires her to travel to regional/rural schools to talk about different careers and study/ pathways to Uni and TAFE. Well done Courtney - great news. We love to hear news from our alumni Rotary students. Courtney attended NYSF 2 years ago.

The Science Experience: still waiting to hear if any students will apply from ESC.

Bunnings BBQ

What a beautiful day it was - the weather really turned out for us.  Some good sales (must have been the cook), great job to everyone who helped out on the roster.  Bunnings BBQ's are always a good solid fund raising activity for us.

Prep Pack Packing

As President Lindsay has reported, we set about finalising the Prep Packs for the 2026 prep students in the local Primary Schools.  This event is always a lot of fun and is what Rotary is all about - hands on assistance to give back to the community where it is needed the most.  Many thanks to everyone who helped - it was fun to see our production lines in action.

Share the Dignity - Mums & Bubs Bags

…… and these two members had way too much fun packing the Mums and Bubs Bags.  It makes the work so easy when you are sharing a bit of a laugh, having a good 'ol catch-up and thoroughly enjoying the process.  Great job Karen and Jennifer.

Foundation Dinner
Our normal Wednesday meeting on 28 October will be transferred to Tuesday 27 October to enable members to attend the Goldfields Cluster Rotary Foundation Dinner.
The dinner is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Bendigo and provides an excellent opportunity for fellowship with Rotarians from neighbouring clubs while supporting the valuable work of the Rotary Foundation, particularly the End Polio Now campaign.
Our club will again subsidise 50% of the ticket price for members and partners, reducing the cost to just $30 per member or partner.
The Club will arrange one group booking and pay the full ticket price to the organisers, so members are asked to confirm their attendance by making payment (a direct deposit into our clubs admin account - your name as reference please).
This is a worthwhile cause and an opportunity to support the Rotary Foundation while enjoying an evening of fellowship with our fellow Rotarians.
I encourage as many members as possible to attend.
